Current Production

(On Air from Wednesday May 16th 2001, Channel 4 @ 8.30pm)

Nigella Lawson returns in all her domestic glory with a second series of Nigella Bites (10 x 30 minute programmes):

TV DINNERS

No one who enjoys food can accept that good food is for the weekends only. But after a tiring day very few of us looks forward to hours spent in front of the stove. This programme sees Nigella preparing fast food for food lovers; A golden Thai curry, Lemony Squid in a salt and pepper crust and home-made ice cream, all created in minutes.

COMFORT FOOD

Nigella would say that all the food she cooks is comfort food, she is not a restaurant chef, she is an exceptional home cook with a family to feed. Her philosophy is that food must be reassuring and familiar not complicated and intimidating. Look out for Chicken soup with Kneidlach, a soothing Lemon risotto and for jilted lovers, Nigella has the chocolate cake for you.

TEMPLE FOOD

Every woman knows that too many late-nights and to much partying cannot be concealed indefinitely by miracle creams. There comes a time when we all have to give a little back. Templefood is the soothing restorative foods that make us feel virtuous. Try the Vietnamese Chicken and mint , the gingery-hot Duck salad and the aromatic Tom Yam soup with Tiger Prawns.

TRASHY

Enjoying food and enjoying eating isn’t about graduating with honours from the Good Taste University. In this programme Nigella says goodbuy to the food snobs and purists and creates a space for a bit of kitsch in the kitchen. Elvis Presley’s fried peanut butter and banana sandwich, Ham baked in Coke and Chocolate Lime Cheesecake.

ALL DAY BREAKFAST

Breakfast can be the best meal of the day so why not eat it all day? These are late-start, lazy day recipes; Asian spiced kedgeree, Welsh Rarebit muffins and Blackberry and Apple Kuchen.

LEGACY

Nigella takes a trip down memory lane - ‘Every time I pick up a pan, I am drawing on what I inherited but there are some special dishes which I either ate as a child, or which come from the family kitchen that have a special significance and which I want to keep alive and pass on.’ Granma’s Chocolate refridgerator cake, Asparagus with soft eggs and Liptaur.

SLOW COOK WEEKEND

You’ve got more time to cook it, and you’ve got more time to eat it. You want the sort of cooking that gets on with itself slowly, so that you can potter about the house unencumbered and invite people to lunch without having to slave from first thing in the morning; 36 hour Roast Pork, Warm shredded lamb with mint and Pomegranate and Sticky toffee pudding.

SUPPERTIME

Inviting friends over is the perfect opportunity to perform and it’s worth having a few recipes up your sleeve that look and taste fantastic but don’t require a nerve of steel to take on; Lamb Shanks with cous cous, Raw salmon with ginger and rice vinegar and CrËme Brulee.

RAINY DAYS

In Rainy Days where there is no pleasure in being outside, Nigella will advocate for the very real pleasure she finds when making elaborate and time consuming recipes. Chocolate Cloud Cake, Aubergine Involtini and home made pasta with meatballs.

PARTY GIRL

If the idea of catering for a party makes you want to lie down quietly in a darkened room, you’re not alone. However, for children’s birthdays or gatherings in a summer garden, there’s always food you can do that makes you actually feel pleased you invited anyone in the first place; Union Square CafÈ spiced nuts, Halloumi with Chilli and spatch-cock birds on a BBQ.
