HITLER'S BRIDES

Commissioned by Channel 4 Television

In Hitler's Brides ordinary German women tell how they lived during the Third Reich. How they felt liberated by the Hitler Youth. How their health and ancestry had to be checked before they could marry. How sterilisation laws deprived them of motherhood. And how by the end of the war most of the women felt betrayed by the leadership, which at the beginning had courted them with incentives.

The rich detail of the first hand testimony provides an in-depth insight into what life was really like for women in the Third Reich. It tells of the moral dilemmas women faced and how they often decided to remain silent rather than to act.

With interviews of Female Hitler Youth members, Officer brides and SS-wives, Communists and Socialists. Use of unseen home movie footage and colour film of the time.
