GUNPOWDER TREASON - TERRORISM IN 1605

Flashback Television has designed and produced the new GUNPOWDER TREASON exhibition for the Tower of London. The exhibition commissioned by Historic Royal Palaces, opens in July 2005 and runs for 12 months. It marks the 400th Anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot. The Tower of London is closely linked to the Gunpowder Plot. In November 1605, the gunpowder barrels found under the Houses of Parliament were taken to the Tower of London and one of the leading plotters, Guy Fawkes, was taken to the Tower for interrogation.

The exhibition is based on a series of audio-visuals to tell the Gunpowder Plot story. The first uses modern computer graphic imagery to imagine what would have happened if the gunpowder had exploded 400 years ago and the effect such a massive explosion would have had on London and on British society. Another audio-visual display traces the story of what happened to the plotters after Guy Fawkes was discovered under the Houses of Parliament with the gunpowder and shows how the survivors were finally captured. Another audio-visual display goes behind the myths to tell the real story of the interrogation of Guy Fawkes at the Tower. A final audio-visual looks at the legacy of the Gunpowder Plot in terms of the first planned act of terrorism.

The exhibition will be officially opened by the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod. One of his earlier predecessors was responsible for security in the Houses of Parliament in 1605.

For Flashback Television, the project executive producer has been Taylor Downing. The project director was Andrew Johnston. Rachel Naughton has been project manager assisted by Clare Moriarty. The audio-visuals have been edited by Oliver Baker and Simon Lower has created the computer graphic imagery.
