Tim Ball is Director of Production at Flashback, an award-winning independent production company with clients including the BBC, ITV, Channel Four, Five, Teachers' TV, British Council, France 2, Arts & Entertainment Television Networks and Discovery Communications.
He began his career in independent local radio, after which he worked on pop promos and television drama. Following this he was Assistant Director of Current Affairs for the international voluntary organisation The English-Speaking Union where he produced the inter-governmental 40th anniversary celebrations of the Marshall Plan, and seminars on Afro-European relations with the European Commission.
Moving to independent Hawkshead as a producer in 1990, he worked across their output including broadcast series, sponsored films and cinema commercials. His clients included the Department of Health, European Commission, Forensic Science Service, Health Education Authority, Metropolitan Police and Science and Engineering Research Council. His projects won him 13 awards at festivals in the UK and the USA.
As Head of Programming at video publisher Television Education Network between 1996 and 1998, he re-launched five niche channels producing around twenty-five programmes a month.
In 1998 he joined Flashback Television as Head of Production. Promoted to the role of Director of Production in 2003 he oversees all operational and production aspects of the company including legal & business affairs and human resources.
He is an active contributor to UK television trade bodies and expert groups. He is a Trustee and Board Member of the Independent Training Fund, and chairs the ITF’s Advisory Forum. He is also a member of PACT's factual programmes expert group, and was on PACT's negotiating team for a new Factual Programmes Agreement between PACT and Bectu.
He created Flashback Briefings, the company's unique professional development programme for all staff and freelancers, which was nominated for a Broadcast B+ Company Talent Development award.
He is a graduate in International Relations and also holds a postgraduate diploma in New Media Management.
